What is Trigger Point Dry Needling?

Trigger point dry needling is a technique used by therapists to decrease muscle tension by releasing trigger points. Therapist inserts a sterile monofilament needle in the center of a trigger point to force a depolarization of the muscle creating a twitch followed by release. This is done by pistoning the needle several times in each spot.
Patients usually report the sensation of a deep, dull, aching, grab each time the muscle twitches.
Once a patient experiences this rapid elimination of muscle tension, they typically request it at every visit because it is so powerful at relieving pain.
